How do you become a successful content-writing freelancer? Not an easy job if you make it difficult for your readers. Yes, some techniques and strategies can bring you traffic but is that all that you want? No! Being a successful freelancer doesn’t just define attracting traffic. It’s an umbrella that covers customer engagement, customer feedback, the right use of technology, relevant content, and more.

Qualities you should have to become a successful content-writing freelancer-

  • If not a geek, be good at tech. Awareness of SEO, Keyword tracking, Google Analytics, and other factors can’t be skipped. We aren’t the Stone Age people who can draw lines on the walls and survive in today’s digital world. Be in touch with the world. Stay updated.

  • Not networking in the age of social media is like not getting on a rescue boat when your Titanic is half sunk. You can’t be an introvert when it comes to chasing your leads. Talk. Talk to the point. Talk casual. Talk relevant and show you are helpful.

  • There’s always a kickstart but remember, you stop you sink! There will be days you will not generate a single lead, your brain freezes and customers aren’t kind enough. These are the days you have to stick to the process. Persistence is the key.

  • You’ve dove into the ocean of unpredictable waves. One can’t do that without self-confidence. There’s no surety of success if you are doubtful of your work. Motivate yourself and you will eventually receive motivation in digits.

  • ‘Fake it until you make it’ isn’t really true. You are a fresher who has decided to hop on the track of freelancing. You can’t have years of experience at the beginning of your career. So, learn what’s required, execute your content, and publish it. So, you are no longer an alien in the field. You are not faking it. You are showcasing your knowledge in the form of a portfolio, and that’s acceptable.

  • Never lose your touch. Genuineness holds value. People like relevance and they no longer fall for textbookish content. This isn’t the game of politics, so being diplomatically correct isn’t the correct way to approach your client. Understand their requirements and come up with a write-up where it's all you and you in it. For example, Posthog is a website that comes up with amazing blogs. Why amazing? Although the topics aren’t out of the world, they have their own style of presentation.

What not to do-

  • ChatGPt is a tool to use and not the tool to be used by.
  • Never lessen your value. Set your value that’s one level up than what you think it should be.
  • Do not be corporaty* This isn’t the traditional work culture where you have to share the same email template with everyone. Every client and brand needs to be studied and deserves a special way of approach.
  • There’s no need to get yourself on every freelancing app like Freelancer, Upwork, Fiverr, or anything else. Invest in the skill-gaining websites and invest in your website. Yes, the initial grind is intolerable, but it’s all worth it.

There was a time when people didn’t accept the writer’s name in the end credits. But this is the age where inbound leads are drawn from your content. May it be a blog, an article, or just a caption on a random post on Instagram, people are in search of uniqueness.

You are meant to be found by good clients, create a good GPS for them to reach you.
